(۱) پڑھو اپنے رب کے نام سے (ف۲) جس نے پیدا کیا
Read with the name of your Lord Who created,
(۲) آدمی کو خون کی پھٹک سے بنایا، پڑھو (ف٤)
Created man from a clot.
(۳) اور تمہارا رب ہی سب سے بڑا کریم،
Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent,
(٤) جس نے قلم سے لکھنا سکھایا (ف۵)
The One Who taught to write with the pen.
(۵) آدمی کو سکھایا جو نہ جانتا تھا (ف٦)
The One Who taught man all what he did not know.
(٦) ہاں ہاں بیشک آدمی سرکشی کرتا ہے،
Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious.
(۷) اس پر کہ اپنے آپ کو غنی سمجھ لیا (ف۷)
As he considers himself independent!
(۸) بیشک تمہارے رب ہی کی طرف پھرنا ہے (ف۸)
Indeed towards your Lord only is the return.
(۹) بھلا دیکھو تو جو منع کرتا ہے ،
What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids –
(۱۰) بندے کو جب وہ نماز پڑھے (ف۹)
A bondman when he offers the prayer?
(۱۱) بھلا دیکھو تو اگر وہ ہدایت پر ہوتا ،
What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance,
(۱۲) یا پرہیزگاری بتاتا تو کیا خوب تھا،
He would enjoin piety, so how good it would be!
(۱۳) بھلا دیکھو تو اگر جھٹلایا (ف۱۰) اور منہ پھیرا (ف۱۱)
What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state!
(۱٤) تو کیا حال ہوگا کیا نہ جانا (ف۱۲) کہ اللہ دیکھ رہا ہے (ف۱۳)
Did he not realise that Allah is watching?
(۱۵) ہاں ہاں اگر باز نہ آیا (ف۱٤) تو ضرور ہم پیشانی کے بال پکڑ کر کھینچیں گے (ف۱۵)
Yes certainly, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock.
(۱٦) کیسی پیشانی جھوٹی خطاکار،
A forelock that lies, is sinful.
(۱۷) اب پکارے اپنی مجلس کو (ف۱٦)
So let him now call his gang!
(۱۸) ابھی ہم سپاہیوں کو بلاتے ہیں (ف۱۷)
We will now call the guards!
(۱۹) ہاں ہاں، اس کی نہ سنو اور سجدہ کرو (ف۱۸) اور ہم سے قریب ہوجاؤ، (السجدة ۔۱٤)
Yes indeed; do not listen to him – and prostrate, and become close to Us. (Command of Prostration # 14)
